How to Use Loco Translate to Translate Themes and Plugins (GOMAX and Themeasy)

Loco Translate lets you translate the Gomax theme and the Gomax Core plugin directly from the WordPress admin, without editing code. This guide walks you through installing the plugin, creating a translation, and keeping it safe through future updates.

Install and access Loco Translate

1. Go to Plugins » Add New in your WordPress dashboard.
2. Search for “Loco Translate”.
3. Click Install Now, then Activate.
4. Open the new Loco Translate menu item that appears in the dashboard sidebar.

Translate a theme or plugin

1. Go to Loco Translate » Themes to translate the Gomax theme, or Loco Translate » Plugins to translate the Gomax Core plugin.
2. Select the theme or plugin from the list.
3. Click New Language.
4. Choose the target language from the dropdown menu (for example, Spanish, French, German).
5. Choose where to save the translation files:
   • Author: fine if you don’t plan to update the theme or plugin often.
   • System: keeps translations safe during updates. Recommended for Gomax and Gomax Core.
   • Custom: lets you set the file location manually.
6. Click Start Translating.

Translate strings

1. Browse the list of translatable strings for the theme or plugin.
2. Use the search bar to find a specific string.
3. Click a string to open the editor and enter your translation in the text box.
4. Click Save regularly as you work.

For example, translating “Add to Cart” into Spanish means entering “Añadir al Carrito” in the translation field.

Test your translations

Visit the pages or features you translated to confirm the text appears correctly. If a translation doesn’t show up right away, clear your site’s cache and check again.

Tips for translating Gomax and Gomax Core

• Gomax theme: strings are translatable throughout, including key pages like Cart, Checkout, and My Account. Pay attention to placeholder text and button labels — these have an outsized effect on the user experience when translated well.
• Gomax Core plugin: widgets such as sliders and text animations include translatable labels and settings. Translate every user-facing string, including button and animation labels, to keep the experience consistent.

Keep your translations through updates

Loco Translate stores translations as .po and .mo files. To avoid losing them when the theme or plugin updates:

• Don’t save translations directly inside the theme or plugin folder.
• Use the System or Custom location option when creating the translation.
