How to Update the Shock Theme

Shock receives regular updates with new features, fixes, and security improvements. This article shows how to connect the Envato Market plugin so you can install those updates directly from your WordPress dashboard.

Back up before you update

Always take a full backup of your site — files and database — before applying any theme update. If anything goes wrong, you can roll straight back.

Install the Envato Market plugin

To get updates, install the Envato Market plugin. WordPress prompts you to install it right after you activate Shock, or you can add it manually from the plugin’s page.

Connect your Envato account

The plugin needs a personal token to talk to your Envato account.

1. Sign in to Envato.

   Go to ThemeForest and sign in with your username and password.

2. Generate a token.

   Open the Envato token generator to create an API Personal Token, and give it a name such as “My WordPress site”.

3. Enable the required permissions.

   Make sure these permissions are ticked:

   • View and search Envato sites
   • Download your purchased items
   • List purchases you’ve made

4. Create and copy the token.

   Agree to the terms, click Create Token, and copy the generated token immediately — you won’t be able to see it again.

5. Paste the token into WordPress.

   From your WordPress panel, open the Envato Market plugin, paste the token into the field labeled “Enter your Envato API Personal Token”, and click Save Changes.

Apply an update

Once the connection is made, the plugin’s settings page lists every WordPress theme you purchased through Envato Market / ThemeForest. Any available Shock update can be applied from there — or from the standard WordPress Updates screen.

Deactivate the license first for major moves

Updating in place is safe. But if an update is part of migrating to a new domain, remember to deactivate your license on the old site first. See Activate License.
