Updating the Theme

Leverage receives regular updates that add features, improve compatibility, and patch security issues. Keeping your theme current is one of the simplest ways to keep your website safe and running smoothly.

You have two ways to update: the automatic method using the Envato Market plugin, or the manual method by re-uploading the new theme .zip.

Your customizations are safe

Updating the theme only replaces the theme’s files. Your content, settings, and everything you configure in the Global Style and the builders live in the WordPress database — they are not affected by an update.

Method 1: Envato Market plugin (recommended)

The Envato Market plugin delivers theme updates quickly and securely, right inside your WordPress dashboard. After you install Leverage, WordPress usually prompts you to install this plugin automatically — you can also install it manually.

Once installed, connect it to your Envato account:

1. Sign in to ThemeForest in your browser.
2. Generate an Envato API Personal Token using the token creation page.
3. Name the token (for example, “My WordPress site”) and make sure these permissions are enabled:
   • View and search Envato sites
   • Download your purchased items
   • List purchases you’ve made
4. Agree to the terms, click Create Token, and copy the generated token.
5. In WordPress, open the Envato Market page, paste your token into the field, and click Save Changes.

Once connected, the plugin lists every theme you purchased through Envato. Whenever a new version of Leverage is available, you can apply the update here with a single click.

Method 2: Re-upload the theme zip

If you prefer, you can update manually by uploading the newest version of the theme:

1. Download the latest Leverage .zip from your ThemeForest Downloads page.
2. In WordPress, go to Appearance » Themes and upload the new .zip the same way you did when you first installed it.
3. If WordPress asks, confirm that you want to replace the existing version with the uploaded one.

Caution

Some hosts block replacing an active theme by upload. If that happens, install a plugin such as Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades, or briefly switch to another theme, update Leverage, and switch back. Because your settings live in the database, your site will look exactly as it did before.
